Colorful Alum Cave rock ledge overhangs the boardwalk at Audra State Park

The overhanging rock ledge of Alum Cave (as seen from the boardwalk on the Alum Creek and Cave Trail) at Audra State Park near Volga, W.Va., is the view to the back as you sit on the bench overlooking the Middle Fork River, which offers a completely different feeling of being connected to nature. The 2.7-mile looping trail is considered moderately difficult yet family-friendly.
