Youghiogheny River runs through Ohiopyle State Park

The rapids and waterfall on the Youghiogheny River challenged a 22-year-old George Washington, when in 1754, as a militia officer of the British Colony of Virginia, he followed the river in an effort to find a water route to Fort Duquesne (in Pittsburgh), then held by the French. The site is now a popular destination at Ohiopyle State Park in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
