Indian Mound Cemetery in Romney, WV #3255
Contemplation as memorialized in the monument for Ann Markee (b. Dec. 5, 1805 - d. Aug. 21, 1853) graces Indian Mound Cemetery in Romney, W.Va., one of the largest remaining mounds in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. This mound has never been excavated, but similar mounds of the area dug by the Smithsonian Institution suggest that this mound may date between A.D. 500 and 1000, and have been constructed by Hopewellian peoples.
