Mont Chateau Connector along the Cheat River #9262

After enjoying an afternoon of fun along the Cheat River, West Virginia University students hike up the Mont Chateau Trail next to the lodge along the Cheat River near Morgantown, West Virginia. Mont Chateau Lodge was once a state park and now houses the West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey, and also a small geology museum. According to TrailForks.com, the Mont Chateau Connector is primarily a hike-a-bike trail that "connects the end of the Mont Chateau trail at Cheat Lake to the old Mont Chateau Lodge/WVGES buildings and finally to Mont Chateau Road. Scramble down the large boulder and cross Quarry Run, it is possible to cross without getting your feet wet during times of low water. Follow the path of least resistance on various social trails along the edge of the lake, they eventually merge into one main trail. Continue on this rocky trail until you reach a very steep concrete path that curves up and around the WVGES building. Follow the sidewalk and stairs around the second building to the parking lot entrance gate and Mont Chateau Road. Most of this trail is very rocky, many sections are technically ridable but take serious trials skills. This trail is unsanctioned."
