The donning of a white coat in pharmacy education signifies that this educational process is more than just the acquisition of knowledge and skills pertaining to medication and its delivery to the patient. Rather, students mus realize that at the heart of patient care lie the professional commitment to empathy and compassion. These virtues will enable the pharmacist to deliver care in a manner that patients can understand and from which they can derive greater benefit. Notably, the coats being presented to the members of the Class of 2024 have been donated by alumni, friends, faculty, and staff signifying in a very real way that the humanistic approach to patient care transcends generations and unites practitioners of all ages.
