North Central West Virginia Landscapes and Nature

I've been a Morgantown W.Va., photographer since our move from Elkhart, Ind., in December 2015. Cheat Lake, Morgantown, and North Central West Virginia are now the places I call home. They are also the places I photograph the most.

It's tough to decide where I want to go when the creative juices start flowing and I feel like exploring with my Nikon.

Snake Hill Wildlife Management Area is a great place to photograph sunrises over the Cheat River Gorge. Coopers Rock State Forest may be seen from Cheat View and Table Rock and two other overlooks.

WVU Core Arboretum next to the Coliseum offers a trail system that goes down to the Mon River Rail Trail and crosses over that to trails that run along the Monongahela River. The arboreal sanctuaries offer pure solitude.

Cheat Lake Park is a hidden gem that is especially beautiful during the golden hour. This is my favorite place to go in Mon County when I feel like being next to a peaceful body of water.

West Virginia University and Morgantown always offer different routes via the Mon River and Deckers Creek Rail Trails and through the two campuses and various neighborhoods.

West Virginia Botanic Garden is right up Pounds Hollow Road from our home in the Four Seasons, so that is a blessing. WVBG continues to grow and has become a go-to destination for locals.
